Who said Micron was ever just a computer memory firm anyway? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Boise firm historically has dabbled in a number of electronics
products before becoming solely a semiconductor firm in the late 1990s.
Micron divested the last of its non-semiconductor interests in 2002.
Micron Computer, started in 1991 as Edge Technologies, later become Micron Electronics, then MicronPC and now is called MPC Computers. The large personal computer firm is one of Nampa´s largest employers and is now owned by L.A.-based Gores Technology Group. MCMS, started in 1992, originally was known as Micron Custom Manufacturing Services, specializing in electronics components. It was part of MicronPC, then sold to private investors and filed bankruptcy. It was purchased out of bankruptcy in 2002 by Wisconsin-based Plexus Corp., and continues to be a large employer in Nampa. Micron Internet, a subsidiary that offered dial-up Internet service to thousands of Treasure Valley residents and businesses, was spun off along with Micron Electronics and no longer operates.
